Space Travel and Vending Machines - What Do They Have in Common?

We have put men on the moon and have kept humans in space for decades. We have robots on Mars that have been working far longer than anyone ever expected and we have probes circling other planets and even a couple ready to exit our solar neighborhood. So what does that have to do with vending machines? Nothing. Well, sort of.

Last week I had a conversation with a co-worker. He made a good point. We as humans have the ability to do all of the above but for some reason we have an inability to manufacture a vending machine that works consistently. Seriously, how many times have you walked up to a vending machine and put your money in only to have your selection stick in the machine? A vending machine is very simple and probably has more computer' power than the Apollo moon lander.

Why is it that we can put a man on the moon and yet the vending machine doesn't work right? Knowing that we have a lot of technology in our day-to-day lives, all courtesy of the space program, why don't things work right? Ok, so they needed a ballpoint pen to hold in a breaker so they could leave the moon. It broke because it was hit by their suits and not because of pure failure. Considering the feat and where things have gone technology wise you would think a simple vending machine would work correctly.

Have we become so technologically advanced that when it comes to simple things we are clueless? I've had the pleasure of meeting and working with some amazing people. The knowledge they had in their heads was unbelievable. Yet, they had a hard time grasping some simple day-to-day things.

Have we as a society, in terms of technology, reached the same point? Are we so closely tied to technology that we can't do simple things or make simple machines that work consistently? Calculators work flawlessly every time. Computers will work for years and years doing what they should. Argument on computers is they fail a lot. This is not true though. They work fine and just as they should. A computer crash 99.9% of the time is not hardware related; it's software or user error. Sure hard drives will fail, cooling fans will fail, and CPUs will fail. It is, after all, a machine but the failure rate of a computer due to hardware is much, much lower than that of a vending machine.

So, again the question: Why is it so hard to make a vending machine that works consistently? Is it harder than putting Man on the moon? Is it harder than keeping humans in space for decades? Is it harder than sending a robot to Mars? Or is it a matter of vending machine manufacturers just wanting to make things cheap and make a profit? I'll go with cheap to make a quick buck.

The next time you put your money in a vending machine think about the men that went to the moon and the ones in space. Would you trust this machine with their lives? Would you trust it with your quarter?

How To Make Money With The Internet

Shhh......keep it quiet. Most people don't realize what I am about to tell you and if they do, they generally don't comprehend how important this fact is. I warn you, you may get very excited reading this article so brace yourself.

The Internet is the worlds biggest vending machine. To understand how to make money with the Internet, you need to learn a little about money is made in the real world. People bend over backwards and will go through virtually anything to achieve a passive income. In other words, you do the work once but get paid weekly, monthly and yearly for decades to come. This type of money is very different from the get a job type of income. When you work in a job, you start from scratch every day. You get up, go to work, and get paid for the 10 hours you put in.

A passive income however is much better. Do a few hours of work and get paid for the foreseeable future. People turn to real estate most often to achieve this sort of income from tenants. People open laundry chains, so they can have that style of income. Because the machines are self serve, and the customers serve themselves.

The point I am making is the "work once get paid forever" type of income is the most sought after by people that want to create wealth and a good financial future. That being the case, we turn to the Internet to realize that is is the worlds biggest vending machine. Every customer on the Internet, serves themselves. There is little work to be done on your end once you have created the system for your customers to use.

The reason why this type of income is so sought out by clever people, is because of leverage. If you work one hour, and that hour paid you 50 cents every day from now on, your work becomes leveraged, so in 6 months if you have put in 1000 hours of work into your Internet business, your returns would be $500 dollars per day.

But keep this under your hat, and get to work. You can look at one example of how to set up a business in the links below

Restaurant Makeover - 12 Less-Expensive Strategies

Many restaurants experience a plateau in sales after a few years in operation. Sometimes, menu or staff changes aren't effective and owners turn to renovations to attract customers. A restaurant makeover allows you to appear new again in the eyes of your customers. But as a restaurateur, one doesn't always have the capital to do so. Here are 12 less-expensive tips you can incorporate to give your establishment a much-needed makeover without breaking open the piggy bank.

1. New Art - Arrange with a local artist or group of artists to showcase their art in your restaurant every month. Retain the right to veto any piece that doesn't work for you.

2. Fresh Paint - Chipped and scuffed walls aren't very appealing to guests. A fresh coat of paint can keep your restaurant looking new.

3. Change your music - Is your music dated? Consider changing your music to match the type of clientele you'd like to see more of. If you're in doubt as to what they listen to, ask them.

4. Update signage - Is your sign visible during the day? What about at night? Maybe you need a fresh logo.

5. Reupholster - Refinishing and reupholstering chairs and other seating can give a restaurant a completely new look.

6. Rearrange dining room - Make your space more effective by moving your tables around. Strive to make every seat a good seat.

7. Upgrade your bar - Refinish your bar and barstools. Take a look at your premium liquors. Can their display be improved with lighting or new shelving?

8. Change your lighting - Make sure your lighting is properly focused. It should allow your customers to read their menus easily.

9. Update your restroom - Many people judge the quality of a restaurant by the state of the facilities. New sinks and faucets can lift the look of a restroom. At the least they should be in working order with stall doors that close and lock properly.

10. Foyer - Upgrade the first impression your customers have when they walk into your restaurant. Plants, seating and lighting should all be considered.

11. Clean the carpets - Carpets harbour smells and dust which can dampen the overall experience of your guests.

12. New TVs - If you have televisions, make sure their color and picture are both good. New flat screen panels have come down drastically in price which has driven down the price of older technology televisions as well.

Are Vending Machine Location Contracts Important?

You may not think you need a vending machine location contract because you have been working well with the person that owns the area. You may even be friends with them or perhaps you once worked with the individual. None of this matters at this point though because you are involved in a very different type of relationship with them now. This one is going to determine the success or failure of your vending machine business.

You need to do all you can to ensure your business is as successful as it can be. Don't leave anything to chance. Sadly, many owners of vending machine businesses have had theirs destroyed because they were too trusting. They didn't have a vending machine location contract in place. As a result, they had to deal with numerous issues that ended up costing them both time and money.

Consider the length of time of the contract very carefully. You can specify a particular time period such as one year. You can also have the vending machines in place on a basis where either party can cancel it at any time. While this type of option allows you to move your vending machine if it isn't doing well it can also work against you.

Consider this issue very carefully. You may want to go for a long term contract period, but what if the location turns out not to be as good as you thought it would be? The amount of profits you are going to make will be much lower than you had anticipated. However, with an open end contract term the owner of the location can choose to have you remove your vending machines at any time. If it is profitable you may not want to move when they ask you to but you will have no recourse not to.

Do your calculations before you enter negotiations so you can have a reasonable idea of how much you can pay for the vending machine location. You may want to choose a set amount of money you are willing to pay each month. Try to get the owner of the location to agree to a price that is going to leave you with plenty of profits left over.

You can also have the contract set up where you agree to pay the owner of the vending machine location a commission each month. This will be a percentage of the money you earn from it. The more money your vending machine makes the more you will be paying out. However, if your vending machine isn't doing well in that location you aren't going to owe them very much either.

Be open to issues that the other party needs to bring to the contract as well. This needs to be a mutual contract that both parties are in agreement with. They may only want you to access the vending machines during specified times. They may also have restrictions on the days of the week. They won't want to be held liable for anything that happens with your vending machines. They aren't going to like to be asked by customers to offer refunds either.

It is very important that you take the time to write up a vending machine location contract. You don't want to lose money or be taken advantage of due to issues that come up later. The chances of you having conflicts over the vending machines will be greatly reduced if you have such contracts in place. You are putting your business at risk if you don't pay attention to this important detail.
